hey guys. Im kind of new to this stuff. Been into street cars since i was a kid but now trying to make more of a hobby out of it. I was just wondering how often do you guys get together and were. would like to hang out with you guy's to learn more about these things. I purchased a RS4 and i have done a few things with it just trying to learn the whole racing thing now cause yeah like one of the guys on this thread said wasting fuel WOT in a parking lot by yourself sucks. Anyway im in romeoville so let me know if any of you guy's would like to get together when this rain and snow stops let me know. :racing:

Did anybody see that little article in the back of the March RCCA on spec racing(Electric SK modifieds). It looks like it could be fun and inexpensive onroad experience. Does anyone know anything about these types of cars and how to build them. I cant seem to find any info on them.

Well I was at Al's the other day and they are about 95% sure it will happen. There words were "There will be parking lot racing. We already got the... well at least we think so." LoL I think that is about as close to a yes as we are going to get before they actually start running...

I read that article as well, and decided to email the club that runs them to get more info. I haven't got a response yet. But what I got from the article it looks like the cars 1/10th pan style cars like the RC10L and custom built cars. But hopefully that club will respond to me email.

Also another good idea for a parking lot class of racing is maybe the Tamiya TT-01 Chassis, they offer some many types of cars, but all the same chassis and set-ups. And they run 90-150 bucks complete. Minus radio of course

It's a shame that Bolink is no longer around, they would have the excat cars that we are looking for. The Bolink Legend I think it was called. There where like 80 bucks and very cool.

After some further research I found out that SK race cars are open-wheel NASCAR type cars. I found this article on web giving some details on real SK Cars
http://www.modseriesscene.com/archives/03/wn072903.html.
And I think the R/C version is the same concept. But when I her back back from that club I will post it up.

hey just so we know those tt-01 chassis run up to 210$ and dont drop under 100$ but they would be a great idea for a parking lot league i would be really interested in getting to gether to race freely and get some help learning how to drive
we forgot the rustler

The prices on the Tamiya site are suggested retail price, but most hobby shops(hobbytown usa and tower at least has listed at those prices) average price is $140 minus radio.

Well I got a reply from the club Beantown Racing. They are from Boston obvisouly. And they where will telling me that the SK car is just a mini version of the open wheel car but nascar style racing. But the actual car they us are 1/10 pan cars like the RC10L, or a mix of different pan cars. The main thing was they all have a direct drive tranny like RC10L series, and the same tires. They usuaslly run 4 cells, and 19t motors as stock, but do have a modified class. They usually run on carpet, but in the summer they will run in the parking lot. He said would send me some pictures of the cars in the club.

Not a problem. I thought those cars where cool too when I read that article. But I guess if some wanted to start a parking lot series, making a spec series would a great idea. I still think that if thats the case running the Tamiya TT-01 Chassis would be the best bet. $134 and all you need to add is a radio.

And with Tamiya we woould be all on the same level, it would all come down to driver skill. Becasue you can have top of the line everything and still suck as a driver.

did someone mention Tamiya Mini Coopers?

We have three of them now and they are a GAS!

They take a beating, are fast for what they are, and if you wanted to race them the best thing to do is use the Tamiya TCS rules and it would make it simple and inexpensive. the 95 dollar kit comes with the car, motor and a speed control. Drop in your own servo and reciever and you are up and running.

Also, if you wanted more people to show up all you'd need to do is mention it at rctech.net's regional racing forum, mention it an intense's forum and tracksides forum, and his-and-her's forums and you'd have a bunch of other mini coopers show up. that wouldn't happen if you did the TT01's.

Another good choice for spec class type racing would be the Parma Goodtimes kits. There two kits, the Hemi Coupe 2, and the Pro '37 Chevy. I mean they to are pretty cheap too. Plus they look like fun. Like the oldschool Bolink Digger/Legends series. But of course I sure most of you don't remember Bolink, but they where huge in the early ninties.

Hey guys. I HOPE AL's does the racing in a parking lot or the YMCA. Not only is it because I live in elmhurst like 2 minutes from AL's, I am 14, and I am very nervous of racing at LHR. I am nervious i am going ot get in peoples way, and just be a pain for people. Although al's wont prolly be holding a off road race course were i can run my truggy which i will be running at LHR in the future, I can run my xray and I would get more familiar with the racing scene and not be so nervous. We will have to wait and see, I think it will be a great set up mainly for new comers, and hopefully older folks wont get too agrivated.

Welcome man! Parking lot racing would be a good place to get less nervous. However... head out to leisure if you get the chance. The only way to get less nervous with the truggy is to run it on the track. What truggy do you have?? I'm sure there will be people that would be willing to help you out. (All that you have to do is ask) If you don't want to jump right into a race wait untill you have a day off of school and just go out for practice. Then... have fun. Take it slow and move to the outside if someone comes up on you... and then just have fun. That's what it's about anyway...

Welcome Phantom, you dont have to worry about LHR. You don't even have to ask for help. If your having a problem somebody will jump right in and give you hand. I had a problem with my throttle the last time I was out at leisure and some guy just jumped right in and started helping me out without me asking. It was great. Great track with great people, top notch.

Ok, guys, sounds cool. As for what truggy I am running. It is not complete yet. It will mainly be 1 off stuff. The spring season will be for testing, and the end of the season or summer will be when I start accualy racing. it will be practice till then.

Not to highjack the thread, but the truggy, will have custom 7075 a-arms, 7075 chassis(with 10 degree front kick up machined in) Progressive Suspension piggy backs( I might decide to run Revo Suspension set up in the front). Custom 7075 shock towers, Unlimited engineering shocks. Picco .27( i know it isant the BEST but w/e) and Proline bow ties on dace 23mm adapters as well as proline 23mm rims.

Let me know,
Joe
