New Buggy
#1
Hey guys..

Thinkin bout scoring a new buggy, and would like your help.

Trying to compare the Mugen 1/8 MBX-5 ProSpec, XRAY XB8, and the TTR S3.

I really don't have the product knowledge with the buggy's, and I am looking for the best one. So if there are other buggys I should look at please say what those are too.

Thanks for your input!

If your interested you might wanna look into the Jammin X1CR Pro version right now A Main Hobbies has them for 449.00 and you get free shipping with orders over 100.00 dollars with them. Its a little more then the S3 but cheaper then the Prospec and the Xray. Just thought I would throw that in there. They also have out the Factory Team that has big bore shocks, new brake pads and 5mm shock towers but that is going for 550.00 I think and that is a A Mainhobbies price also.

I personally have the Factory Team X1 CR and think that its a great buggy, build went super smooth, haven't had a chance to run it yet though.

I did have a S3 and it was a great buggy as well, parts are cheap and alot of places carry them, build was as good as any other and if your the type that likes to try a ton of setups to me the buggy seemed to have a lot of different options to try out. I used it on a out door track with the flat chassi and it handled the rough stuff like none other I thought.

But again this is just my .2cents.

I would have to agree with Mike some on what he said it seems like the Jammins do wear out some faster then I would like to think it should, I'm just hopeing that some or most of that will be fixed through out the year with some new type of hardcoating or materials.

All those buggys yuou lsted are all great. The Mugen will have a updated model out soon tho, so you may want to wait to for it if you want a mugen. The Kyosho is another good choice for you also.

I'll have my CEN Matrix at the track this Thursday night (hopefully if I'm not working) and will also have
my Hot Bodies Lightning... what kinda money you looking to spend.. if you have thousands.. then everyone will say go with Kyosho... if you barely have hundreds go with the HB.

Are you looking to be a uber racer or a basher or both?

I like the CEN Matrix so far, and I think it could be a good racer, it has it's quirks, but I think most are solvable.

Brian

PS: I'm working on a review of the Matrix.. Should have it done in a week or so.. watch the front news of BigSquidRC =)

well I haven't priced them in a while.. but they are not cheap...

http://www.kyoshoamerica.com/products/31...cial-2.asp $749 and it's a rolling chassis.
You need a engine and electronics... another $400 easy.

I'm sure it's probably not $749 most places.. I'd guess $600 though.. still without a engine and radio.
Just does not seem worth it. If you want one, I'm sure you could get a good price on a used one.. probably complete for $700-800 but that's not as fun and breaking it for the first time yourself. =)

kyosho and xray are the most expensive of the bunch, by the time it is race ready the kyosho will be in the 1000's I have been there done that moved on, they make a good buggy I wont deny that I have seen many people excel with it and many people do crappier with it. Dont just think u will like somehting because it says kyosho on the side. Your best bet is to get a few guys who have a different buggy and ask them if u can drive it, also talk to them about it and see how they feel about the buggy

Depends on what you wanna do with a 1/8th scale. You wanna bash it with the occasional race or go full blown race ? Kyosho, X-ray, TTR, Jammin, Mugen and Sportwerks are mainly aimed at racers. While the others seem more aimed toward the basher/part-time racer. The high dollar kits are more money, but durable more tunable and drive different on the track.
So, 580 for a XB8 kit in my opinion is worth the cashola.

I am not saying that the buggies arent worth the money, I think that the xray is worht the extra dollar more than a kyosho, only because look at the quality of parts on the Xray, spring steel universals, cnced this hardened that, u really dont need hop ups for that, not htat kyosho has to have hop ups, but if are gonna spend more $$$ go with the xray over sp2

You guys are great! Thank you for the input.

The price point is not really in my thought process... or at least it is last. I want the best buggy. What will I do with it? I want to enjoy putting together a high quality buggy. I love quality 1st and fore most. Once together... I will enjoy driving it on a track. Your typical park/back yard stuff. I would not call myself a racer at all. But I do like to drive the crap out of my stuff.

Speaking of quality... this is why I have asked Mike to do a shell for my Losi LST II. It is far from stock... and all high end hop ups. No fluff!

So... gettin back on topic. Like I stated... my product knowledge in the buggy world is nill. Am I am putting a lot into what you guys have to say here.

I am leaning! Just want t make the right choice for what I am looking for.

Thank you guys again. I am listening!
