Hi all,
just wanted to let everyone know about the drag event coming up! There's a flyer here:
http://www.bigsquidrc.com/pictures/holes...r_july.jpg
and pictures from the last event here:
http://www.bigsquidrc.com/pictures/holes.../index.php
This one is being held during a 4th of july event with a REAL car holeshot/burn-out contest! So if your into RC or real cars, this is going to be a good time!
They have closed off several blocks of street for the events.
For more info, check my front page, or call Geno (The guy who runs it.. his # is on the flyer)
Hope to see some more of you guys there!
Brian

I'll run 1:1 Drags. Heck I should have kept my old tires for the burnout comp too. :-( I can smoke these but they are too pricy.... (I'll look out for worn tires my buddies are getting rid of.)

Right where it says Google in the corner of the picture is where my father's offices used to be before he moved. And we always eat at the little restaraunt across the street.

Boy you are setting yourself up for failure like that.
I may go check out the drag racing, we'll see.

So when drag racing what do you do different than when you race at a track?
For nitro....warm your engine up normally then right before the drag lean the crap out of your carb and only run it that way for that race?
For electric... figure out what pinion gives you full speed 1/2 the way of the straight then use like a 6 turn motor?
For both...take all the steering out of your servo too?
I'm assuming they'd only let you run 6 cell batteries?

Would love to see ya out there Tex. If you only race one car, you'll only race 2-3 times if you loose. Since there so many people, it's usually 2 out of 3, and move on. So if you loose early, you'll have more then enough time to hang out.
As for setup. You have the steering right. A lot of the fast cars, that are just drag cars, can barely turn around in the street. Most run down the track, and sit, till someone turns them around, or walks them back.
There are not a lot of electrics at the moment, but that is chaning. There were several fast electrics last time. And it's still anything goes. Obviously they try to pair up vehicles as close as possible.
For nitro, come warm. They frown on tuning at the track. i.e., make a run, loose, pull out the screwdriver to lean it out a little more before the next pass. It's time people don't have.
The biggest problem is that when your name is called, a LOT of people can't get their vehicle started in 5 min or less.
There is usually 2 hours before racing starts to get things dialed in. I usually just make sure my stuff is ready to start, and hope it does ok.

I dont like Geno because he rips people off that are new to the hobby. He takes advantage and sells people stuff they dont need. I used to work with him at my hobby shop but the reason I quit was because I didnt want to be associated with that kind of image in this hobby.
Not only does he sell junk but he repairs cars as well and ive seen a few of them that seem really fishy. Like c clips in a transmission, diffs that never got a drop of oil or grease. I dont even wanna get into what I hear about his drag race events. Funniest thing I heard was people having a channel checker and people turning on there radio's of the people drag racing at the moment and letting there buddy get the win.
Dont get me wrong Geno is a nice guy to talk to. Just ripping people off with junk and doing some really shady repairs turns me away. Thats why I chose to permanently disband from him and his stuff. And everybody that goes to the drag races that are locals by me can attest to this as well because anytime we get together everybody has a new story of how Geno did something like the stuff mentioned above.

My personal opinion is if Geno would just setup events and stick to organizing stuff like that he would probly be liked by a ton more people. Tex if your gonna come out let me know and id go and chill down there for a little bit. Im only 3 minutes away so id go to hang out.

I really wish I wasn't scheduled to work Naperville Ribfest on 7/1. I would be there. My parents still live right by Marian HS and I could use an excuse to go see them. Maybe I can reschedule it. We'll see.

Anyone want to set up 1:1 races?? Nothing too crazy.... As of now I just have an intake and new(ish) tires. I may have a turbo inlet pipe by then. I probably won't have an exhaust or be chipped though.... any takers for small money??
