Well scale is a different animal completely. Its not like a mt at all, but it will make you a better driver after time. The arena truck class is growing huge and is like a scale more chareteristically (sp) like an mt more forgiving than a scale.
Take Mike up on his offer, but remember its a TTR so if you like driving his, you will enjoy driving a real buggy that much more. 
A friend will help you move, but a REAL friend will help you move a body.

I didn't read all the posts of what other people said, but here is my opinion. 1/8 buggies are very strong. So far the only thing that I broke was a bent front shock tower and a front arm. This was only because my switch failed and I ran almost WOT into the wall on the back straight at LHR. They can take a lot of abuse and as long as your trying to stay on the wheels, I don't think they will break.
