its really not that much money when u consider all of the stuff u will need to get the others running decently, basically the turmoil is the best outta the box RTR out there, it has most of the same parts as the pro

i dunno man u know my favorite brand but u must admit that its not a bad buggy for the price, Kadow and lil derek can win with it i think it breaks a bit more but it is still a fast buggy

The Sportwerks Turmoil is probably the best "Bang for your buck" that you listed. One thing that Sportwerks does that most other companies don't, is make their RTR version VERY close to the Pro version. The main differences being in Tires and engine. Most other companies make their RTR's with a lot less upgrades, to keep the cost down AND raise the amount you will have to pay when you are ready to upgrade to get more competative. The Jammin is a little more high end, but will cost a bit more. If you want to save a little over the Jammin, but want to go with Ofna, the Hyper 7's and Hyper 8's are good. You can usually find a decent Hyper 7 on e-bay or rcuniverse for around $250-$300, and be fairly competative.

Biggest thing to keep in mind, is parts availability. If you have limited access to a hobby shop (Too young to drive, Hobby shops too far, etc.), Check parts availability at the closest hobby shop to you. Being new to the hobby, you will probably break some parts, and it would quickly turn you away, if everytime something broke, you had to wait 3-5 days to get parts online.

i would try to look for a used RTR TTR eb4 s3 buggy, mike and I both have one and theyre great buggys and I have never broken anything on it yet. very strong and very durasble and a great competative buggy. I like the jammins but the parts wear out to fast.

I know, im saying if he can find a nice used but RTR TTR buggy for cheap like i did then pick it up. I know brand new its a kit.

he may just want to pick up a kit, then get a nice radio and a o.s. .21 rg for about110 and then a nice pipe for about 50 or so.....

all in all it would cost him about 170-200 for a pipe and engine combo for a starter and then like 200 for a radio, then 300-500 for a new kit.

also about 80-115 for a nice starter box

its oging to be expensive if he wants a compeative one or close to competative

If you aren't intent on racing then there is nothing wrong with the OFNA Ultra Comp 2. I had it shipped to my door for $263 from tower with tax, all I needed was fuel and batteries. I STILL like my Ultra comp2. The motor is slow though, even with a JP3 pipe it wasn't very fast, barely cleared the tripple at LH even when I had a good line through the berm. The Ultra comp 2 is technically not legal to race because it has a .26 motor, though I don't think you'd have a problem with people letting your race it as the motor is slow as hell and you'd never touch anyone in the straights.

I'm not a racer, so even though I have a Jammin' X1 FTE buggy its only because I picked it up as a roller for $177, and then picked up a OS 30vg for another $170. Add electronics, servos and tires I had laying around and wala, cheap ultra fast buggy. Tons of power. One guy at the local bash has a Himoto Torpeda, don't know about the buggy itself, but the motor was pretty decent for a factory mill. Pretty damned fast.

I say ebay is your best bet. You can pick up some insane deals on a used competition level buggy, or you can peice stuff together cheap too.

get a kit it will cost u more, but they are always better. besides u gotta take apart the RTRs and loctite everything anyway

Quote of the day. I had to redo just about every screw where metal on metal contact occurred. Not that I wouldn't do it when building the kit.

When I rebuilt my jammin I loctighted justa bout everything, even stuff i didn't have to.

I just traded my Jato this weekend for an 9.5 MBX so I'll be going through that one in a while too. Disassembly, chassis bath, replace all screws. Reassemble.
