Debate: Best start-up car/truck for first timers.

but for a first timer. Is a kit really that smart? That is the question.

I built my first kit in about a day. It was not that hard. But I honestly dont think I would have done it that fast and without problems if I had not had the time on the revo. So having a RTR is not always a bad thing.

Nope. RTR's are not bad things.... but people should take the time to learn them before running/breaking them. In general, people don't though. Therefore it is sometimes better to go slowly and even struggle a bit through a kit. I almost wished I had.

Then that is due to a bad gear mesh or a lot of chassis flex. When properly setup they will never strip. (Heck even a plastic one on a maxx will not strip if the mesh is right and the chassis is stiffened.)

They dont break, and will last the life of the buggy/truggy in most cases...Ive never had to replace one in my 2 1/2 years of racing.

Dan i wanna see you flex a savages chassis bro, his problem is mesh... Robinsons spurs kinda blow imo... They are made of chitty metal and seem to always have a warp...

Have him get the hpi metal spur its like a truggy spur lightweight and tough as nails

I say 1/10th Stadium truck, electric or gas is best for begginers. Easier to wrench on and If you master it, you shouldn't have too many problems wheeling anything else.

I could do it. I am strong like bull. I could flex a rock if I had too. LoL Big Grin (I was thinking T-Maxx in my head on the chassis flex idea.)

My vote is on a RTR of any kind for a person who knows NOTHING about RC. Anything else would be too hard to get going. Heck they may not even be able to start the engine on a RTR. seriously

I would never recommend a kit to someone just starting out.
There is enough to figure out with an rtr when first starting in the hobby.
There is a better chance of people sticking with the hobby if they have a good expiernce when starting out

Well, I think nearly every jumped right past the "start-up" portion of this thread. A person starting out in the hobby is likely not going to have ever run, or tuned a nitro car.

I say, if your only experience is electric tyco cars then a Stampede would be a very good bet. Especially now that they come with the 12t setups. Its easy to get parts for, easy to fix, and while not super tough, it seems to take its share of tumbles and crashes well for a starter car.

That is why my 6 year old son has a pede. Although I am not a electic guy so I cant wait for him to get alittle older,and gain alittle more skill so then I can put a nitro in his hands Smile

the 1st rc I ever built was an mrc iron man, its also the 1st real rc I ever had, and still have. it wasn't raceable by any means against the t3's of the day. that was back in 97. building a kit teaches you how to work on it also, so I think that its benificial. I also think starting off in 1/10th scale electric teaches you to drive better

Used truggy would be the best IMO. Gas truck is too hard and fragile. Buying used u save alot and get the quality of a kit type vehicle.

well like everyone said its about what ur gonna use it for, I had an onroad and a Madforce to get all the bashing outta it got old after i backflipped my house twice and could jump 10 garbage cans with my hot mod 528. If you are looking to get into racing seriously, get a GT
