The whole headliner was fiberglass...boy was that fun....NOT! . . . . I bet I had over 40 hours of just sanding alone on that project, getting it ready for paint! LOL

Damn. That is some amazing work. You weren't kidding when you said that you had me beat with the PG amps. I still cannot say how much I love that Dakota. I wanted to sell my GTI and buy that when I saw yo uwere selling it. (If you don't mind me asking, what did it go for?) As for the rest of those setups.... teach me. LoL
Now I know I posted on the last page, but I have my sub running off of the line out converter. I know the best way is to run RCA's back from an aftermarket head unit.... but with the monsoon speakers (amped kind of weird like Bose I believe) I don't think I can just slap in a head unit. I think I will need to at least run all new wiring and maybe new speakers. Do you know offhand what I would need to do? Reccomendation on head unit and speakers if I need them? Best bang for the buck, but not cheap crap. I think that makes sense.... Only extra car audio I have right now is that PG 300.4 sitting around. Thanks Dan

I do miss that truck...it sold for $21,500 as you see in the pics....I paid 25k for it though and had it 4 years.... I really miss the Cobra too...I sold that for 17k which is what I bought it for 3 years earlier, and I put it back to stock when I sold it Man I wish I could have kept them all As for the monsoon....Im not really sure. I do remember working on a Jetta with that system, but I cant remember if I changed the HU our not. Something tells me I did, and just used the stock amp/speakers. On some vehicles, all you have to do is hook up the HU like normal with a harness adaptor, then turn on the factory amp with the remote wire thats in the harness. On HU's, I like Pioneer, preferably the Premier line, they're easy to use, look good and sound good. I hardly have any customers come back with problems either. Alpine is nice too, but lately they're getting stupid on how the controls work making it difficult to work them, compared to Pioneer's. We used to deal with Clarion back in the day, they were nice too, not sure how they are now though.

I used to compete years ago. I've got some Dynaudio stuff 4-6 1/4" midbass, 2-3" mid domes, and 2-1" dome tweeters I'd like to sell. I've also got the passive x-overs for them.

Allright..... need a reccomendation.
I am going to start saving now and virtually re-do my system this summer. The sub will stay the Adire Audio Brahma, and that amp will remain the MA-Audio. I am most likely going to go with a double-din screen (I have a double-din head unit right now) and new speakers all around. I will power those with the Phoenix Gold 300 watt 4 channel amp that I have. What component speakers would you guys (Slim or Eric mainly) reccomend? I can probably get a pretty decent deal on JL, Alpine, Kenwood, and not sure who else, maybe Clarion. Then I can just sell my "stock" premium sound system to someone with a VW looking to upgrade from their basic stock one. They bring a few bucks. I believe my speakers are 6 1/2" rounds and 1/2" tweeters maybe? I am not sure on the tweeter size. Just looking for reccomendations on what speakers to go with though. Thanks Dan

My jetta has a non-monsoon system and it's 6 1/2's in the doors and (4) 1" tweets
I might be interested in the monsoon system (possibly), head unit and all (if it's CD)

Allright.... I imagine that it is 1" tweeters then. If I end up selling the monsoon system it would probably be about the middle of summer, and complete. CD head unit, all speakers, factory amp, everything. The way I did the tap for the line out converter is very clean so I would probably leave that attached to the amp as well. You could choose to hook up a sub or not.
Now.... speaker reccomendations? I am looking for something middle to high end. I will probably run cross overs and everything. (I just don't think I am going to quite as "SQL" as slim with the graphic equalizer. I don't think my ear is good enough to tune one of those. (Do you tune individual tones? And what do they cost? LoL)

I would look into the polk SR6500, many medium priced focal, morel, rainbow, Seas components are absolutely amazing. Personaly I will end up getting the SR6500's unless another company manages to better those around the same price 500-600 another thing is that you will need to properly deaden your doors for anything to sound as good as it can. http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27 I'm not even halfway as far as he went and you gotta admit those cheap polks don't sound halfbad I will prolly finish the doors this winter along with the whole car

Also how much is your budget?? because some uper-midrange morel's or seas will cost as much as half a year of insurance

Koz's-Mugen Wrote:Also how much is your budget?? because some uper-midrange morel's or seas will cost as much as half a year of insuranceWow, that would be pretty cheap then, because I only pay about $350 every six months As for speaker choices....all the major brands are decent, you mainly just have to listen to them and see what "you" like and can afford. I personally liked the sound of Dynaudio speakers when I used to install them. The place I work at now has JL Audio and A/D/S for their better speakers. I like the sound of both, even though they sound very different from each other. I had JL Audio XR 3-way's in the SRT-4 and they sounded great. I had Image Dynamics in my truck and loved those too, but those are not your average style speaker. If I were to get "into" it again, I personally would look and see if I could find a Dynaudio dealer to listen to them again. But for now, my SRT-6 has the stock Infinity's in it, but they are not you typical stock speaker.... Ive had them in my had when I ran new wires to them for my amp, and they look just like aftermarket speakers, they sound like them too In the end, its all up to what you think sounds good.
