I know someone with two 15" L7's. I don't know how they got the box in the trunk, but it takes up the whole trunk. You can hear him from like 3 blocks away.

psh thats nothing. the guy who owns a car audio store around here has an escalade with 1 18" kicker solo x. thats like 5000 watts rms. i couldnt see straight or breathe right in there. that was crazy.

all you audioheads. would a smaller sealed box make my type r hit harder? it calls for a .5-.8 cu ft box. and whats the advatages/disadvatages to a line driver? any reccomendations on a good one? thanks.

There are only 2 ways to move air and thus create maximum SPL. The first is a driver's xmax (the ability to move forward and back). That's the linear motion from a stationary state. So say one 10" driver has a 1" xmax ( 1/2" forward, 1/2" back) and another 10" has a 1 1/2" xmax. Assuming the same effeciancy of the drive system (magnet, suspension, etc.) then the driver with the higher xmax will be capable of moving more air and thus achieving a higher SPL (sound pressure level).
The second way is a larger diameter driver. A smaller sealed box will make your "type r" hit harder if you mean a faster transient response, however that will come at the the expense of lower bass. There's always a trade off. BTW, regardless of input (100 watts or 5000 watts) any energy that can not be converted into linear motion ends up as heat and must be dissipated though the voice coil and magnet assembly.

what do you mean by lower bass?

im still confused sorry. will a smaller box make it hit the lower bass?
10-09-2007, 09:59 AM
No. You will lose some of the lowest frequencies because the driver will not have enough "strength" essentially to move slowly against the higher pressure build up in a smaller box. That is the best way I can think to explain it. A smaller box will get a sub to hit quicker and be more "musical" and will not hit as low. This is true for sealed boxes.
Ported boxes are different because you are going to tune them for certain frequencies based on volume and port size.

what are your guy's opinons on memphis stuff?

You guys need to check out Madisound. I've been a customer for over 20 years. If you're serious about high end audio and have the ability to understand the science of audio this is the place for you.

So....I need an amp. RMS must be around 500 watts. No more than $200.
Ideas? Tekno EB48.4 HobbyWing XR8 Sanwa M12

NEW DUAL 1000 WATT CLASS D MONO AMP CAR SUB AMPLIFIER - (eBay item 320165614478 end time Oct-12-07 13:32:40 PDT) . Im gonna run a type r and that amp in the near future. Just gotta pay off credit card, get a box, then il be picking that up. I got a dual radio and I love it. Awesome quality and it seems there really starting to make a name for themselves.
10-10-2007, 08:43 PM
so can you put 2 subs in?
10-10-2007, 09:22 PM
yeah you.
cause i would.
10-10-2007, 09:26 PM
Yeah, theoretically I bet I could.
But, I don't have enough money for two subs, two amps (or 1 powerful one), and god knows how much juice that would pull...Might have to up the alternator then and I really don't want to do that. I'ma stick with one Hey. PM me with the dimensions of your current box please, I'm having problems finding a box that will fit without sub "risers". Tekno EB48.4 HobbyWing XR8 Sanwa M12

Yes. I get paid so little I can't afford even ONE of their subs.
