As long as its semi accurage (within 5* to 10*) then don't worry about it. Not all engines like to run at the same temp. I'd just start to worry if the temp gun starts reading over 270*F There really isn't a reason to run an engine that hot, it will wear out very quickly.
Temp guns are good when you start off because its a visual indication of what is TOO hot. But as you learn how to listen to a nitro engine you won't need a temp gun as much. I still use a temp gun when I question what i'm hearing from my nitro engine.

well, i udnerstand the language of my motor. and everytime i run it i learn more and more. however, i like to have a temp gun handy jsut incase for re-assurance.
BTW, id the " put the cooling head in the oven" trick an accurate way to test out a temp gun?

u wont hurt a motor running it over 270 if u tune it right, tuning should be done by smoke sound and power not temps

yea, i know, i go by that more than temp. but it never hurt to have a second opinion. also, a question i have for you... would it be ok to run a motor at 300+ degrees if it had good smoke and sounded perfect?
wouldnt too high a temp, even thought its tuned, lets say perfectly, hurt the piston and sleeve? or would it only hurt if it cooled down with the piston at TDC?

if the weather conditions are right then its fine, ive seen a motor run rich at 300 when it was humid out

+1 to Czech....engines can run 270F+ no problem and last a long time. Running it too rich will kill a motor a lot faster.
