That conversion works pretty decent, i think thats basically what Bjoe is doing. all-thread can be purchased at most hardware stores and I think HT has it. I personally would use brakeline and 6-32 all-thread with Dubro 6-32 rod ends. I would also recommend moving the servo to the axle and putting the batteries on the axle.
Once we get the club together Im thinking a work day for eveyone that wants to get into crawling should be #1...until then I have no problems helping anyone build a crawler that needs the help. I'm sure if you went into Naperville HT when Zach is there he would be more than happy to help also (I like volunteering him!!!!:joy .

I was at hobbytown today actually, i dont know what his name is but someone was there. I was looking at all the axials, i think the axial would be better for me because it didint look like it needed to be modded alot and stuff to be good.

Axials have the possibilty to be good, your still going to have to assemble everything but, there are directions. If you get one make sure to go with a 55t or higher motor, anything lower count and it seems like a rockracer. Also, pick up the DS parts to fix the defect in the axials, its basically a little ring that keeps them from poping apart. Next time your in there ask for Zach or Jay (Joe at St Charles) and let them know your from the site, it prolly wont get you any discounts but they both read all these threads and will be a little more informed on how to help you.

Alright, so which do you think has the possibility to be better, a wk or an axial? with minimal mods.

Both are good
I would think axial box stock would own a wk box stock with the same electronics, but with minimal work the WK could be brought up to par.

its a toss up.... the axial is a good begginer rig, you can put it together, and go out and crawl but, you are going to end up putting about $400 (total) into it. A WK come out of the box rtr for $209, you need to change the motor and do some minor mods that are either free or cheap, under $300 ready to crawl. Either way your going to have to do some work, rather it is building a kit or taking apart a rtr and turning it into a crawler. Price is a definate advantage of the WK (there is a cheaper version without electronics available) but the directions and crawler design of the Ax10 is nice. I cant tell you which truck to buy (well i could but if it was wrong the you would blame me) all I can do is show you the options. There were allot of axials at the last comp second were Wk's followed by TLT's. If your willing to do some inovations and try some things, go WK you wont regret it... If you want to follow what the book says, get the axial... They are both worth the money.

Hey axial guys...
I might have a solution to the driveshaft popping off issue.
I used to have a revo, and the way they connect the outputs to the axles isn't your typical "pop the crosspin" in there by stretching the plastic.
You have a center steel square with 2 holes drilled through it.
You insert this into the metal U-joint coming off the tranny.
Then, you take a pin with a hole drilled in the center and insert it through the U-joint and the block.
After that, you take a solid pin and run it through the driveshaft, through the block, and through the pin with the hole and run it out the other side.
Then- and this is the part that may help the most- you secure that final pin that goes through the metal driveshaft with two e-clips. So it can't pop off, especially if you shoe-goo those e-clips on.

Thoughts?

I would rather do the axial because im kind of a beginner at crawling, i would rather follow directions and do what they say then do what other ppl say, incase something doesnt fit or something like that. Anyone know what some good esc's and motors are for the axial? How about batteries and other stuff ill need, i already have the m11 so im good with that.

esc-I'm getting the Novak Xrs to start out with, $50 with forward, brake and reverse all with a small footprint.
motor-integy lathe motor, 55 turn.
battery-split 6 cell 2/3aa size pack. Then get the plates or make some for the front axle.
Battery looks like this when you're done.

I picked the 6-32 allhtread I used on the lower steering pushrod at the St. Charles Ace Hardware, shouldn't matter where you go like Jeff said. For the LCA's and front tierods I used Lundsford Ti pushrods for the Revo because I wanted the simple adjustablility and put them on Savage tie rod ends. I'm going to be starting a second WK project that will be using the remaining 6-32 rod from the 3 ft piece I bought this summer since I don't think that there are Ti turnbuckles that are readily available.

Anyone know where the cheapest place to get the axial is? Slow revo? And anyone know where to buy the batts like that setup for a crawler? Or is there an alternative?

Joe DEFINATELY has the best prices. He ordered mine today
For the batteries, you can get them here along with the plates you need.
The Crawler Store LLC :: -Electronics :: Batteries
The first 5 items are what you're looking at. If you pick up an esc that can handle more than 7.4 volts you can run a higher cell count.
The mounting plates come in plastic and aluminum.
I figure I'll just velcro them down or get some g-max straps or somethin.

Just ordered an Axial Kit, 2 split battery packs, side mounts, Novak 55T and using a Traxxas XL-5 ESC. Everything should be here by next weekend. I ma not nervous about building this thing.....just have never painted a body, so that is my only concern. Thinking of going with a classic orange on that Betty Body.

That's the same crawler conv stratcat did, very easy to do. Even you can do moto! j/k When stratcat get's his internet back up you'll have to talk at him about it!
I personally like the Axial because ya get to build it, a lot of tuneability. The only prob I had was the driveshaft's, then I lowered the ride height and haven't had a prob since then(along with a quick fix on the shafts) Moto ya need to go and register on rccrawler.com and read up in the AX-10 section and you'll find whatever ya want to know about them and all the little tricks too! I'm working a deal on some WK axles so i'll be dippin into both sides of the spectrum too!
Hey Jeep_Guy if ya need a body i've got my Betty body painted already and i'm not gonna use it? Here's a pic of it, i'd trade ya for your unpainted one? If not LMK and I could paint it for ya?

Shop locally, by the time you add in shipping its the same price to get the axial at Naper HT as it is anyplace and you get the support of the LHS staff to boot.
As far as motors, either go with the 55t or check out holmes hobbies for a brushless setup.

Im for sure goin with the xps esc, the batts ponch put up (Will the 8 cell, 4 on each side, be harder to mount?) And the motor, is the 55t regular and the 55t pro a big difference?

The xps can't handle more than 6 cells nick (just a fyi) or you could use a 2 cell lipo.
